Uniface 9 and Windows 10

Author: gianni.sandigliano@unifacesolutions.com (gianni)

I am installing a new Windows 10 PC 64bit. I need to check: - Uniface 9.2.3.O314            (client only) - Uniface 9.6 + MX07 = 9.6.08        (client & server) - Uniface 9.7 + G102 = 9.7.01.G102    (client & server) On this platform I was supposing Uniface 32bit should work as a Windows On Windows application (SYSWOW = 32bit application in a 64bit environment). Up to now I am not too lucky...and my initial position is not so strong anymore... :-( Uniface 9.2: is generating an exception error and nothing changed playing with compatibility levels; this is the XML error structure in SystemEvent>Application Section: ********** Nome registro: Application Origine:       Application Error Data:          24/02/2016 10.00.14 ID evento:     1000 Categoria attività:(100) Livello:       Errore Parole chiave: Classico Utente:        N/D Computer:      Gianni10da8 Descrizione: Nome dell'applicazione che ha generato l'errore: idf.exe, versione: 9.2.3.314, timestamp: 0x4d121b8a Nome del modulo che ha generato l'errore: unknown, versione: 0.0.0.0, timestamp: 0x00000000 Codice eccezione: 0xc0000005 Offset errore 0x00000000 ID processo che ha generato l'errore: 0xbac Ora di avvio dell'applicazione che ha generato l'errore: 0x01d16ee1c5e853cf Percorso dell'applicazione che ha generato l'errore: C:\Program Files (x86)\Uniface\U92\bin\idf.exe Percorso del modulo che ha generato l'errore: unknown ID segnalazione: 965ba1ae-0db9-48bf-9d3c-50609fe7fdbd Nome completo pacchetto che ha generato l'errore: ID applicazione relativo al pacchetto che ha generato l'errore: XML evento:           1000     2     100     0x80000000000000         1395     Application     Gianni10da8             idf.exe     9.2.3.314     4d121b8a     unknown     0.0.0.0     00000000     c0000005     00000000     bac     01d16ee1c5e853cf     C:\Program Files (x86)\Uniface\U92\bin\idf.exe     unknown     965ba1ae-0db9-48bf-9d3c-50609fe7fdbd                   ********** Uniface 9.6.08: Many Uniface executable installed into the system ([EXECUTABLE]=udbg.exe, uComDrv.dll, idf.exe, urmon.exe, modeler.exe, uComWorkFlowConnector.dll, uComCfg.dll, TaskConsole.exe, ServerComsole.exe) are generating same error into System Event database; the following is the XML error structure in SystemEvent>Application Section: ********** Nome registro: Application Origine:       SideBySide Data:          24/02/2016 21.04.00 ID evento:     33 Categoria attività:Nessuna Livello:       Errore Parole chiave: Classico Utente:        N/D Computer:      Gianni10da8 Descrizione: Generazione del contesto di attivazione non riuscita per "C:\Program Files (x86)\Uniface\U96\common\bin\[EXECUTABLE]". Only 64bit on 64bit and 32bit on 32bit? - Is VisualC++ redistributable V8.x required from Uniface and is not installed from Uniface installation? On my PC VC90-x86 and VC100-x86 are already installed by default on the system. Should I manually install VC80? I'll continue tomorrow playing with compatibility levels with U9.6 and starting from scratch with U9.7 but if anyone can help to clarify what I've reported is welcome! :-) Ciao, Gianni

  1. Hello Gianni, The Uniface Setup (e.g. for version 9.6 or 9.7) will normally install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package automatically. Please note that this package is required on each individual system where you would like to run Uniface. In case you run Uniface from a network share then it might be necessary to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package manually (on each system). The package is available in the \uniface_setup\vcredist sub-directory of the edist. I've heard from particular cases where the Redistributable Package was not installed correctly. I believe that in some cases there could be a permission problem when running the vcredist installer. It might help when running the Uniface Setup explicitly as Administrator (Run as Administrator option). As for Uniface 9.2: this release is not supported anymore since quite some time (for details see The Uniface Support Lifecycle) and has never been verified or approved for Windows 10. And more info about Uniface and Windows 10 can also be found here. Hope this helps. Daniel

  2. Hi Daniel, I know Uniface 9.2 is not supported anymore but I was asked as minimum to try to install it in the new Windows 10 64bit environment. Installing Microsoft VisualC++ 2005 Redistributable Package before installing Uniface and then installing Uniface using "Run as Administrator" option has solved all problems found before. You can define this issue as [Solved]. Thanks for your support. Gianni
