U 9.6.04 and MS SQL 2008

Author: i.sharp@pcisystems.co.uk (Iain Sharp)

Do I read the latest version of the PAM correctly, in that MS SQL 2008 is no longer supported on any of the Server operating systems, and MS SQL 2012 is now effectively the only supported version? Please tell me this is a horrible typo. Iain

  1. Hi Iain, MS SQL 2008 is still supported on MS-Windows Server 2008 (32b/64b) and Windows Server 2008 R2 (32b/64b). I'm however not sure why Windows Server 2003 is not listed anymore - need to check. For the rest does Uniface 9.6 support MS SQL Server 2008 on the same Windows versions as version 9.5 does. I've recognized on the other hand: when you open the PAM for version 9.6.04 then the first columns are not visible and you probably need to scroll to the right to see all the Windows versions. Hope this helps. Regards, Daniel

  2. Aha, I was confused by them not being displayed to start with, and by the Windows 2008 R2 64b where it is not supported. What's the difference between Windows 2008 R2 (32b/64b) and Windows 2008 R2 64b ?

  3. See the installation code: * W32 is the 32-bit Uniface port that runs on both 32- and 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 * W64 is the 64-bit Uniface port that only runs on 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 Hope this helps. Daniel

  4. To be clearer... w32 is 32 bit binaries it will run on both 32 and 64 bit. w64 is 64 bit binaries, it needs to run on a 64 bit version of Windows. .

  5. diseli said I'm however not sure why Windows Server 2003 is not listed anymore [in the version 9.6 PAM] - need to check

I apparently missed the fact that Windows Server 2003 is not supported anymore in Uniface 9.6. See ReadMe of version 9.6 (Windows Server 2003 is not mentioned in the list of platforms). And also see announcement "Deployment technologies planned to be discontinued in the release of Uniface 9.6" on Frontline (http://frontline.compuware.com/products/uf/tech/30051.aspx) that was published in July 2012. Sorry for any confusion caused. Daniel
