Anywhere on Linux

Author: tomas.hogvag@abilita.fi (thogvag)

Hi, Does any one have experience of running the Anywhere client on Linux? We have tested the Anywhere Linux client (Debian version) The applications start up fast but there seems a problem when moving windows inside the Uniface application. It is very slow and choppy when you drag a window with the mouse pointer. Any tips on resolving this? best regards Tomas

  1. Hi Tomas, As there are so many different flavours of Linux in the market, we officially only support the below mentioned versions of Linux with the UA Clients. • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 (64-bit) • CentOS 5 and 6 (64-bit) • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (64-bit) • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64-bit). On the Client side of Uniface Anywhere, there is nothing you can change. However, you could try to change settings on the HOST. You will have to test settings to find acceptable levels. Try adding the following registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Uniface\Uniface Anywhere\AppServer\ClientOffscreenSurfaces=0 If adding the above registry value does not give acceptable performance, you can then make the following 4 changes: C:\ProgramData\Uniface\Uniface Anywhere\HostProperties.xml: ClientProcessingBatch = 1 ClientProcessingThrottleV2 = 1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Uniface\Uniface Anywhere\AppServer\DisplayBufferMinDrainRate = 500 (decimal) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Uniface\Uniface Anywhere\AppServer\DisplayBufferThreshold = 0x00010000 ------------------------------------ The last thing that you can try is to disable the throttle options in the HostProperties.xml file:  ClientProcessingBatch = 0 ClientProcessingThrottleV2 = 0 These are the final configuration changes that we can offer. with regards, Nico Peereboom

  2. Hi, Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them a try. Thanks for the info on the supported distributions. We have tested on two Linux distributions; Debian 8 and Linux Mint Debian edition. regards Tomas
