U10.3: no usable scrollbar in IDE

Author: ulrichmerkel@web.de (ulrich-merkel)

still the very strange symptoms as reported under: https://unifaceinfo.com/forum/uniface-10-enterprise-edition/u10f208-closing-x-out-of-sight-when-added-tab-exceeds-the-viewport-no-useable-scrollbar/   As a matter of fact, I always have to go to the U-bar to navigate to an already opened object which is not inside the viewport   For a fluent working, I would expect that under the tabs I will ALWAYS have a visible scrollbar (not the hairthin thing one may get shown while hovering around)

  1. Indeed, the scrollbar of the editor tab-strip is a clumsy thing. It is a standard scrollbar of the HTML rendering engine based on a simply CSS overflow property, so the behavior is not in our control, it's just the HTML rendering engine, and it is quiet buggy. Maybe we made worse by restyling it. Are you aware that you can also scroll tabs (in and out) using your mouse scroll wheel? Even if the scrollbar is not visible, the scroll wheel always works. Just as a heads up, we still want to improve the usability of that tab strip, including drag and drop to change the order of the tabs, get rid of the scrollbar at the bottom and replace it by some scroll buttons at the side, and maybe also a drop-down menu with all the open editors as an alternative for when you have a huge amount of editors open. The mouse scroll wheel will stay as is. Gerton

  2. Hi Gerton, thanks for the info about the mousewheel. In fact it works when hovering over the tabs. Perhaps all this could be summarized on the "What's New" Help Page as "How to Operate the New IDE" ? TIA, Uli

  3. Additional Info as I have spend some hour to elaborate the case I posted some 9 months ago now under U10.3:   When I open the IDE, the horizontal scrollbar under the object tabs is not shown. This happens when I have more open editors as tabs are visible. To make the horizontal scrollbar appear, it looks like I have to delete a tab and reopen it. Copy&Paste in U-Bar will help, but the position of the object may change. And the first or last tab may not be shown in full size which makes it impossible: - to close the last tab using the not shown "X" - open the first tab when all it is shown is the "X" Think it's a severe damage in IDE usability.
